Central to businesses being successful is that all stake holders create and receive value.

We are all connected in this endeavor from suppliers, contractors, manufacturers, shops and home owners.

If any one of us in the chain of success does not receive value then we cannot feed our families.

Our goal at EASI is to make sure our customers succeed.

Our success depends on your success.

For many shops The EASI System makes this possible – as much or more so now – as when we started 23 years ago.

Since 2008 our mailing list of cabinet shops has shrunk 35%. I have seen good shops go out of business, not because of lack of work but because their shops were not efficient and not leveraging their unique talents to the fullest. When key components were laid off or left needing to find better paying jobs, owners were forced to take on duties that were not in their wheel house. They became too busy with all the new duties to do the most important thing – find new work. They slowly starved out leaving themselves with at best no job and at worst massive debt and insecurity.

I can name more than a few shops that have broken equipment that they cannot afford to fix. A few that have all the equipment but it only works maybe 5%, 10% or 20% of the month sucking the very life blood out of them. A little secret – they only ever worked 10% to 20% but that was when the economy was overheated. These shops are working for next to nothing and are the most vulnerable among us.

A few shops I know have the good fortune of low overhead. They too are working for a lot less putting additional strain upon the rest of us by keeping their prices artificially low. Their philosophy is to hang on until the ones who cannot make decisions wait till the decision to go out of business is made for them.

A few shops are busy working like mad men employing low wage works and underselling to grab market share.

Yes, there are a few successful shops that have niche markets like commercial, furniture, specialty items and some doing cabinets, also for less money

It seems the only plans many shops have are to keep trying to do the same thing expecting different results, hoping that things will eventually have to turn around. They do not have to - especially not in time to save enough for retirement, health or the unexpected.

You’ve watched for years as large businesses outsourced, in-sourced and merged for mutual benefit. It is baffling as to why our industry is so resistant to change.

The shops that are still here is because of talent, hard work and determination. All the marginal shops are already gone. More may be on their way out because of the rabid inefficiency that is the hallmark of our trade but - but there is room for most of all of us.

These good people can continue making a living in the trade they love by embracing the modern way to do business. The only place to get this money is to reduce overhead and concentrate on finding new customers. We at EASI want to be part of the chain of success.

Thank you.

We are a face frame shop but with EASI cabinets we don’t have to turn away work for the customers who ask for the European design. I trust EASI’s reliability.
